Screaming Heads is the creation of local Canadian artist and sculptor Peter Camani. Peter arrived in the Almaguin Highlands in the late 1970's and became an art teacher at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School. After a successful career as a teacher and artist, Peter retired to an old farmhouse on a large acreage west of Burks Falls, which he named Midlothian Ridge.
Using the forest as his canvas, and concrete as his medium, over the next several decades Peter would painstakingly create his outdoor masterpiece known as The Screaming Heads.
A visit to Midlothian Ridge is a visit into the unexpected. Peter's home has become his "castle", complete with crenellated parapets and a fire breathing dragon on the chimney. The focal point of the castle is a large turret-like structure, reminiscent of the painting "The Scream" by the Expressionist artist Edvard Munch.
Peter Camani's home has been featured on MTV's Extreme Cribs, the CBC series On the Road Again and was featured in a 1996 documentary film called Concrete Ambitions.
