The Beaches or The Beach, is a neighbourhood located to the east of Toronto's downtown. Queen Street East is the nucleus of the community and the commercial district.
To the south of Queen Street past side streets filled with high density older homes. lies the actual beach, a single uninterrupted sandy shoreline along Lake Ontario stretching from the R. C. Harris Water Treatment Plant to the east and Woodbine Park to the west.
This long section of beach is actually divided into four beaches; Balmy Beach, Kew Beach, Scarboro Beach and Woodbine Beach. A boardwalk, initially opened in 1932 allows visitors access to almost the entire length of the four beach areas that make up the Beaches.
